MTC-Q Real-Time PCR Kit

Product Overview

Tuberculosis remains one of the world's most persistent infectious diseases, primarily affecting the lungs but capable of spreading to the kidneys, spine, and brain. With antibiotic-resistant strains on the rise, early and accurate identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex is not just a clinical necessity but a public health imperative. Traditional methods including microbiological culture and histopathology are time-consuming and labour-intensive, delaying treatment initiation and increasing transmission risk.

The MTC-Q Real-Time PCR Kit (TBdtect) from Genes2Me delivers fast, precise detection of MTC DNA in a single-tube, ready-to-use format. By targeting two MTC-specific genes simultaneously, it provides results within hours from sputum and a wide range of pulmonary and extra-pulmonary samples, empowering clinicians to act without delay.

Genes2Me is a CE Marked molecular diagnostics company trusted by clinical laboratories across global markets. The MTC-Q Real-Time PCR Kit meets European conformity standards for in vitro diagnostic devices, validated to international benchmarks for accuracy, reliability, and safety.

How the Assay Works

The MTC-Q kit uses real-time PCR technology in a single-tube format to simultaneously target the IS6110 and mpt64 genes, both highly specific to Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. The RNaseP gene serves as an internal control, validating DNA quality and monitoring extraction efficiency in every run. Pre-optimized reagents, primers, and probes are supplied ready to use, simplifying the workflow and minimising the risk of procedural errors. Positive and negative controls are included to confirm reagent performance and contamination-free processing.

Why Multiplex Testing Matters

TB symptoms overlap significantly with other respiratory and systemic conditions, and a single-gene assay may be insufficient where mutations affect the target region. Targeting both IS6110 and mpt64 simultaneously provides an additional layer of confidence in every result, reducing the risk of false negatives due to genetic variation. The built-in RNaseP internal control further ensures that negative results reflect true absence of MTC rather than failed extraction or amplification.

Key Features & Benefits

Dual-gene targeting for high specificity

Targets both IS6110 and mpt64 genes simultaneously, ensuring highly specific detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and reducing the risk of false positives.

Single-tube, ready-to-use system

Pre-optimized reagents, primers, and probes are supplied in a single tube, simplifying workflow, minimising handling steps, and reducing the potential for procedural errors.

RNaseP internal control in every run

Validates DNA quality and monitors extraction efficiency in every run, ensuring result integrity across all sample types.

Positive and negative controls included

Both controls are supplied in every kit, confirming proper reagent performance and contamination-free processing.

12-month shelf life with robust storage guidelines

Consistent reagent integrity over a 12-month shelf life reduces emergency reorders, cuts wastage, and simplifies inventory management.

Compatible with multiple leading PCR platforms

Validated on RapiCycler 96, Bio-Rad CFX96, QuantStudio 5, and LightCycler 480, supporting seamless integration into existing laboratory workflows.

Applications

  • Clinical & Hospital Laboratories: Enables rapid, sensitive detection of MTC DNA from sputum and a wide range of pulmonary and extra-pulmonary samples, supporting timely treatment initiation and reducing transmission risk.
  • Paediatric & Neonatal Care: Supports early TB detection in children, where clinical presentation is often atypical and conventional diagnostic methods have lower sensitivity, reducing critical delays in diagnosis.
  • Outbreak Surveillance: Rapid MTC identification supports targeted infection control responses in hospitals, care facilities, and high-burden community settings, helping to contain transmission chains.
  • Immunocompromised Patients: Essential for HIV-positive individuals, transplant recipients, and others on immunosuppressive therapy, where TB can progress rapidly and present with atypical or extrapulmonary manifestations.
  • Travel & Occupational Health: Reliable TB screening in occupational health programmes and travel medicine clinics, particularly for individuals with exposure to high-burden regions or healthcare environments.

Analytical Performance

  • High analytical sensitivity and specificity across both gene targets (IS6110 and mpt64)
  • Results available within hours, compared to days or weeks with conventional culture methods
  • RNaseP internal control validates DNA quality and extraction efficiency in every run
  • Positive and negative controls included for full assay integrity validation
  • 12-month shelf life ensuring consistent reagent performance and reliable results over time
