Measles-Q Real-Time PCR Kit

Product Overview

Measles is one of the most contagious viral infections worldwide, spreading rapidly through respiratory droplets in crowded environments. Symptoms appear 10 to 12 days after exposure and range from high fever, cough, and runny nose to the characteristic Koplik's spots and widespread rash. Without early intervention, measles can progress to serious complications including pneumonia, encephalitis, and in vulnerable populations, death. Traditional diagnostic methods are time-consuming and may delay critical clinical decisions, underscoring the need for rapid, reliable molecular testing.

The Measles-Q Real-Time PCR Kit from Genes2Me delivers sensitive, specific detection of measles virus RNA in a single-tube assay. It detects measles RNA directly from nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs, providing dependable results quickly to enable faster patient management and outbreak control.

Genes2Me is a CE Marked molecular diagnostics company trusted by clinical laboratories across global markets. The Measles-Q Kit meets European conformity standards for in vitro diagnostic devices, validated to international benchmarks for accuracy, reliability, and safety.

How the Assay Works

The Measles-Q kit uses a single-tube multiplex RT-PCR design combining Taq polymerase, highly specific primers, and fluorescent probes for accurate amplification and detection. The FAM channel detects measles virus RNA, while the HEX channel monitors the human RNase P gene as an internal control, validating extraction and amplification in every run. Positive and no-template controls are included to further guarantee assay integrity and guard against contamination.

Why Multiplex Testing Matters

Measles symptoms overlap significantly with other febrile rash illnesses, making clinical diagnosis unreliable, particularly in early or atypical presentations. Multiplex testing with a built-in internal control enables simultaneous pathogen detection and run validation, reducing the risk of false negatives and ensuring accurate, timely identification. This is critical for individual patient care as well as rapid outbreak containment.

Key Features & Benefits

Single-tube multiplex RT-PCR design

Simultaneously detects measles virus RNA (FAM) and RNase P internal control (HEX) in one reaction, reducing hands-on time and minimising the risk of false negatives.

High sensitivity with cut-off Ct value of less than 35

Detects viral RNA even at very low concentrations, enabling confident identification in the early stages of infection.

Positive and no-template controls included

Both controls are supplied in every kit, guaranteeing assay integrity and minimising the risk of contamination or experimental error.

Compatible with multiple leading PCR platforms

Validated on RapiCycler 96, Bio-Rad CFX96, QuantStudio 5, and LightCycler 480. No new capital expenditure required.

Streamlined workflow with optimised reagent system

Pre-formulated reagents and clear procedural guidelines ensure consistent, reproducible results with minimal setup time.

High specificity with no cross-reactivity

Confirmed no cross-reactivity with HIV, HCV, HBV, or Staphylococcus species, ensuring precise measles-specific detection.

Applications

  • Clinical & Hospital Laboratories: Enables rapid, sensitive detection of measles virus RNA from respiratory swabs, supporting timely treatment decisions and reducing the risk of nosocomial spread.
  • Paediatric & Neonatal Care: Critical early detection tool for infants and young children, where measles complications including pneumonia, encephalitis, and malnutrition can be severe and life-threatening.
  • Outbreak Surveillance: Supports rapid identification and containment of measles clusters in hospitals, schools, and community settings, particularly in under-vaccinated populations.
  • Immunocompromised Patients: Essential diagnostic support for patients at heightened risk of atypical or severe measles presentations, where standard clinical diagnosis may be unreliable.
  • Travel & Occupational Health: Reliable screening in international travel clinics and occupational health programmes, where exposure risk is elevated due to travel to endemic regions.

Analytical Performance

  • High analytical sensitivity and specificity
  • Cut-off Ct value of less than 35 for positive detection, reliable even at very low viral RNA concentrations
  • No cross-reactivity with HIV, HCV, HBV, or Staphylococcus species
  • Positive and no-template controls included for full assay integrity validation
