DENGUE-Q Real-Time PCR Kit

Product Overview

Dengue fever is one of the fastest-spreading mosquito-borne viral infections globally, affecting millions annually across tropical and subtropical regions. With four distinct serotypes circulating simultaneously, accurate detection alone is not sufficient. Serotype-level identification plays a critical role in patient management, as secondary infection with a different serotype significantly elevates the risk of life-threatening complications including Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever and Dengue Shock Syndrome. Antibody-based tests are unreliable in the early acute phase, creating a diagnostic gap where molecular testing is essential.

The DENGUE-Q Real-Time PCR Kit from Genes2Me delivers simultaneous detection and serotyping of all four dengue virus serotypes in a single workflow. It detects viral RNA directly from whole blood, serum, or plasma during the acute phase, before antibody response develops, providing the earliest and most reliable window for clinical intervention.

Genes2Me is a CE Marked molecular diagnostics company trusted by clinical laboratories across global markets. The DENGUE-Q Real-Time PCR Kit meets European conformity standards for in vitro diagnostic devices, validated to international benchmarks for accuracy, reliability, and safety.

How the Assay Works

The DENGUE-Q kit uses a two-tube multiplex real-time RT-PCR format with fluorescently labelled TaqMan probes. DENV-1 and DENV-2 are detected in the FAM channel, while DENV-3 and DENV-4 are detected in the Texas Red channel. An internal control is monitored in the HEX channel in every reaction, preventing false negatives due to PCR inhibition or poor sample quality. Ready-to-use reagents including primer and probe mixes, reaction buffer, positive control, and qRT-PCR master mix are all supplied for a streamlined, contamination-free workflow.

Why Multiplex Testing Matters

All four dengue serotypes co-circulate in endemic regions and produce clinically indistinguishable presentations. Without serotype-level identification, clinicians cannot assess secondary infection risk, epidemiologists cannot track outbreak dynamics, and public health teams cannot implement targeted vector control measures. A multiplex assay with built-in internal controls detects and differentiates all four serotypes in a single workflow, delivering actionable results that a single-target or antibody-based test cannot provide.

Key Features & Benefits

Simultaneous detection and serotyping of all four DENV serotypes

A two-tube multiplex format identifies DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4 in a single workflow, supporting clinical correlation and epidemiological studies without additional testing.

Early acute-phase detection

Detects dengue RNA before antibody response develops, enabling diagnosis in the critical early window when clinical intervention is most effective.

High sensitivity with LOD of 200 copies/ml

Reliable detection even at very low viral loads, ensuring accurate identification across all stages of acute dengue infection.

Built-in internal control for every reaction

HEX channel monitors PCR inhibition and sample quality in each tube, preventing false negatives and ensuring result integrity.

Ready-to-use reagent system

Primer and probe mixes, reaction buffer, positive control, and qRT-PCR master mix are all supplied, supporting a streamlined and contamination-free workflow.

Broad sample type compatibility

Accepts whole blood, serum, and plasma, offering flexibility to suit different clinical collection and processing protocols.

Applications

  • Clinical & Hospital Laboratories: Enables rapid detection and serotype-level differentiation of dengue virus during the acute phase, supporting timely patient management and appropriate clinical intervention.
  • Paediatric & Neonatal Care: Critical diagnostic tool for children, who are at higher risk of severe dengue complications including DHF and DSS, where early identification is essential to prevent rapid clinical deterioration.
  • Outbreak Surveillance: Comprehensive serotyping supports real-time monitoring of circulating DENV serotypes, enabling targeted public health responses and epidemiological tracking during outbreak events.
  • Immunocompromised Patients: Essential for patients at elevated risk of severe dengue outcomes, where accurate and early serotype identification guides clinical management and supports informed treatment decisions.
  • Travel & Occupational Health: Reliable dengue detection and serotyping for travel medicine clinics and occupational health programmes serving individuals returning from or working in dengue-endemic tropical and subtropical regions.

Analytical Performance

  • Clinical sensitivity of 98% and clinical specificity of 99% across all four serotypes
  • Limit of detection: 200 copies/ml, reliable across all four DENV serotypes
  • High reproducibility with coefficient of variation below 3%
  • No cross-reactivity with chikungunya, West Nile, yellow fever, or HSV 1/2
  • HEX internal control monitors PCR inhibition and sample quality in every reaction
